Data compression and encryption

My Revista FT article, in brief

My Revista FT article (volume 29, issue 140, November 2024) compares compression and encryption algorithms in highly variable scenarios. Here is the summary of the summary, with a link to the full text.

Illustrative schematic: a stack of “500,000+ files” goes through “Compression (Deflate, DRIC)” and “Encryption (AES, RSA, Blowfish)” and on to “transmission” and “cloud”; below, the Shannon entropy formula; a “~9,450 configurations” label.

The summary of the summary

The article describes a methodology for data compression and encryption and assesses how efficient the algorithms are in highly variable scenarios. The benchmarks cover more than 500,000 files and about 9,450 distinct configurations, testing the performance and security of the DRIC system (Data Reduction Information Compression). The comparison includes established technologies such as Deflate, AES, RSA and Blowfish, in contexts ranging from data transmission to secure cloud storage. It also discusses physical implications related to data flow and entropy.
